This
has been MY Journey… thus far..
Who
Am I?
My name is Rowan. I am a multifaceted
lady who enjoys acting, writing
and all things spiritual, inspiring
and creative. I appreciate the
beauty of the earth, the companionship
of animals and the blessings
that a child’s laughter
and perspective can bring to
our lives.
What has made me who I am? –
Life’s diverse twists
and turns of fate; I know what
it is to have money because
I was born into it. My grandfather
was a self-made millionaire.
He started the company ‘Magnet
Joinery’ (subsequently
‘Magnet & Southerns’
and now Magnet Ltd.) from nothing,
selling bundles of firewood
door to door in Yorkshire -
what a guy eh?
My mother and father moved to
the lovely Island of Guernsey
in 1960, where my father, an
architect, built a beautiful
family home and 21 self-contained
holiday flats with swimming
pool complex, which became their
business. We enjoyed an opulent
lifestyle and my sister and
I attended 'Ladies’ College'
the public school for girls
on the island.
However ..I also know what it
is like to be poor. My father,
let’s just say, through
perhaps making several 'unwise'
choices in life, lost the lot
when I was 14, Leaving my mother,
sister and I alone, penniless
and in debt!
The bailiffs came in and took
everything! ..and I mean EVERYTHING!
My Father died a few years later,
also penniless, at the age of
45.
My mother, sister and I moved
to Sidmouth in Devon in 1976
and rented a small flat above
a shop ..and oh boy how we struggled
to get by!
I had met a young man a few
months earlier, whilst living
on the island of Guernsey. He
decided to move to Sidmouth
to be with me. I was still very
young and naive ..and had been
through a lot - and by the time
I was 17, I had married him
and become a mother! (We divorced
a few years later and I became
a single parent of 2 boys…
without a penny of maintenance
from him.)
While I was married, my daily
life consisted of; seeing to
the kids, housework, shopping,
cooking, washing, watching television
and weekend outings to the DIY
store (sound familiar?) - Life
was SO boring
and personally unfulfilling!
"Surely there must be
more to life?" I thought
to myself.
"Am I just another bored
housewife, or is there a more
creative, expansive, fun-loving
individual inside of me waiting
to get out?"
So
I looked within - found my
passion - saw a greater vision
for myself...
and went for it!
I started weight training, which
opened up a whole new interest
for me. I began to feel really
good about my body and my confidence
soared! I also decided to join
a local amateur dramatics group
which released an aspect of
myself that I was not aware
existed - I found I was totally
in my joy on stage in character.
It was great to be part of a
team who were entertaining people.
Even when I later divorced and
became a single parent on Income
Support, my newfound passions
spurred me on, proving to myself,
that even as a full time single
mother of two, I could still
make the time to enjoy achieving
personal goals when I put my
mind to it!
As a result of this my life
expanded in many ways. I gained
more self-confidence and life
became more joyous. This in
turn reflected on my family
and friends - it was infectious!
Age
and / or 'status' need not
be a barrier to fully expressing
who we are - We all have the
opportunity to change our
perspective on things like
ageing, our roles as parents,
grandparents (by the way I'm
a grandmother too!), husbands
/ wives and on what we think
we are or are not capable
of being or achieving at any
point in our lives.
After successfully achieving
my personal sporting goals both
in bodybuilding and on the television
series 'Gladiators', I then
decided to explore further 'aspects
of Rowan', namely my 'spiritual
side'.
This has led me on an 12-year,
ongoing personal quest for knowledge,
which has included the study
and practice of certain philosophies
and concepts such as: the principals
of metaphysics (the study of
the nature of reality and mind
/ consciousness), aspects of
physics (energy & vibration),
meditation, spiritual awareness,
Reiki healing, tarot, positive
thinking and the power of the
mind.
One thing I have
learned, for which I am eternally
grateful, is that TRUE
wealth comes from
WITHIN! One
of the greatest of these, being
'Self-knowledge'.
Throughout my personal journey
I have had many amazing, profound,
and at times ‘mind boggling’
experiences and realisations.
I have also learned many hard,
but useful 'lessons' along the
way (and continue to do so)
– The path of the seeker
is not always an easy one!
However, even when the 'going
gets tough' and I find myself
having to deal with a life drama
or crisis, thanks to what I
have learned along my path,
I am always able to draw on
my inner strength and knowledge,
which enables me to get through
it with a 'higher perspective'
so that I do not become totally
'consumed' or emotionally 'dragged
down' by it. - Life is all a
matter of perspective! - Do
we choose to see "the glass
half full" or "half
empty"?
The 'Spiritual Path' has indeed
been a wonderful teacher -
It has taught me empathy &
compassion for people from all
walks of life, for I see the
inner wealth & beauty in
all people, regardless of outer
wealth & status (or lack
of it). Money itself does not
impress me ..it is the passion
in a persons heart to be creative
with it or by helping to make
positive change in peoples lives
that I admire.
- I suppose I can truly say
that I am now a woman who can
fully appreciate the finer things
in life that money and privilege
CAN buy ..AND the finer things
in life that money CANT!!
By consciously putting what
I have learnt into practice
in my daily life - and seeing
these principles actually work!
– has left me with a feeling
of deep gratitude for all I
have received and experienced
- The good and
the bad!
I have gained a greater awareness
of the 'power' we ALL have within
us to shape our lives: Each
and every one of us possess
a unique 'creative' spark, which
when ignited, can literally
change our lives for the better,
bringing us an ever greater
sense of abundance and expansion.
- It is this
philosophy on which the MsMotivator
web site is based.
There is a well known
poem by Marianne Williamson
that I feel expresses this philosophy
beautifully…
"Our
deepest fear is not that we
are inadequate,
Our deepest fear is that we
are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves,
Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not
to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small doesn't
serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened
about shrinking
So that other people won't
feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest
The glory of God that is within
us.
It's not just in some of us;
it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light
shine,
We unconsciously give other
people permission to do the
same.
As we're liberated from our
own fear,
Our presence automatically
liberates others."
There
are NO ordinary people…
Look
inside, find your passion..
and live life to the full!
